We want you to understand exactly what gliding costs and how you can get started — whether you’re here for a one-off experience or planning to learn to fly.

✈️ Air Experience Flight — $195

Our Air Experience Flight is the best way to feel what gliding is like. You’ll fly with an experienced instructor, learn how a glider works, and enjoy the unique serenity of silent flight with sweeping views over central Australia.

  • No experience required

  • Perfect gift idea for friends or family

This flight is an unforgettable introduction to the sport.

Membership Costs

To fly regularly or start training with us, you’ll need to become a member of:

  • Alice Springs Gliding Club – $420 per year

  • Gliding Australia (GFA) – $420 per year

Membership supports club operations, insurance coverage, access to training, and community-run flying activities. It also includes the support of volunteer instructors and access to club gliders when not flying lessons.

Flying Rates

Our flying rates are simple and transparent:

Activity Cost
Winch launch $17 per launch
Two-seat glider – adult (with instructor) $2 per minute
Two-seat glider – junior (with instructor) $1 per minute
Single or two-seat glider (no instructor) $1 per minute

 

These rates cover the use of the glider and launch equipment. Instructor time is provided by volunteers and isn’t charged separately, that means your flying costs go directly towards keeping the club operating and accessible for everyone.

Learn to Fly

If you are serious about learning to fly, we recommend speaking with us about our structured training options — including multi-day courses and training packages. A full course is not just the flights but also the instruction and time you need to build confidence and progress quickly toward your goals.

Value of Club Flying

Flying with a club significantly reduces costs compared with flying light aircraft or doing non-club flight training, because:

  • We don’t charge for instructor time — volunteers share their expertise.

  • Members can take part in all club flying activities.

  • You get access to a community of pilots, training support, events and social flying.
