At the Alice Springs Gliding Club, we typically fly on Saturdays — weather and conditions permitting. Saturdays are our busiest and most social flying days, welcoming members, first-timers, students, and visitors alike for a great day in the sky.
Whether you’re chasing your next solo, enjoying a cross-country flight, or introducing someone to the magic of silent flight, Saturday is the day to be at the airfield.
✈️ What to Expect
Flying activities typically include:
🚀 Winch launches
🎓 Student training flights
🌤️ Cross-country soaring (when conditions are favourable)
🧑✈️ Solo and dual flights/
🤝 Social flying and pilot camaraderie
Flights usually begin in the late morning, once conditions are assessed and safe for flying. We aim to fly through the early afternoon as long as the weather supports safe operations.
Every Saturday is a little different — that’s part of the adventure.

Gliding is weather dependent. If conditions are unsuitable such as strong winds or thunderstorms, we may postpone flying for safety.
